About

Kay Gerfers is a native Texan, born in Abilene and raised in San Antonio. She is a graduate of MacArthur High School where she met her husband, Butch. In 1984, she earned a degree in architecture from the University at Texas in Austin while raising three sons none of whom live in San Antonio because, according to them, San Antonio is a good place to be from.

Kay’s career path did not lead toward becoming an architect as she had planned. Instead, after a long stint as stay-at-home mom she landed in the dot.com business where she was an account manager. After leaving that industry in 2003, she wrote for San Antonio Weddings magazine and Food and Leisure magazine. She currently writes a blog called Woodpile Kitty and is a regular presenter of inspirational videos that appear on the Morningside Ministries website, mmLearn.org.

Being active both in her church and in the community has always been an important part of Kay’s life. She served on a capital campaign for Healy Murphy Learning Center that was successful in raising five million dollars to modernize the 100 year old school located on San Antonio’s eastside. She has mentored teen moms through Young Lives. At her church, First Presbyterian, she currently serves as the Small Group Ministry Team Leader. She is also a member of Stone Oak Toastmasters. Besides honing her speaking and leadership skills, Toastmasters is one of the most fun things she does.
